We are approaching another busy time of year in our countdown to the end of the financial and Rotary year.
Our District 9685 Assembly sees our Board Members heading off on Saturday 4 May 8.15am-4.30pm at Western Sydney University Kingswood to meet up with other Rotarians who are taking on Board roles in the 2024-2025 year. Apart from receiving important updates about the responsibilities of their roles, there are big changes coming with the Regionalisation Pilot, which will have an impact on all Rotary Clubs around Australia. Thank you for committing to this additional time to up-date your knowledge and network with like-minded Rotarians in our District.
Saturday 11 May is the meeting of District 9685 Presidents where we will be updated on the latest District news and get to share ideas. It is always important to hear from our District Governor, Christine Owen, about happenings across our clubs, and learn about the changes ahead. It is sometimes forgotten in the weekly demands of club life, that we belong to a wider organisation that has a District, National and International alignment in its vision and commitment. As a respected charity and service club we are governed by laws and regulations that are requirements of all Rotarians in all clubs.
Time to check the expiration date of your Working with Children registration. People will have different expiration dates, but as we approach the end of financial year, it’s important that our club starts the new year compliant with this requirement. It can be updated online and takes a relatively short amount of time to complete. All members need to do it every five years. It is free of charge for Rotarians.
District Changeover Dinner is the 29 June 2024. It would be good if the Rotary Club of St Ives were able to be represented at this important passing of the baton. Please check your calendar now, and pencil it in, if you would like to be part of this important evening for District. See further details in our District section of this bulletin.
National Bowel Cancer Screening Program is available to purchase online until 30 June 2024 for $30 including postage and handling. Trish advises it is straightforward and you can pay by credit card or PayPal. Kits purchased outside the program dates will still be tested as long as the test is submitted before the expiration date on the outer envelope. www.cancercareaustraliaorg,au
A great evening was enjoyed by all at Farina Pizzeria last Wednesday 17 April. We were again remined of the generous meal servings with several members taking home food they could not finish! Pleased to advise Farina are kindly donating a raffle prize for our end of year raffle to be launched in time with our Food and Wine Festival. If you have any businesses who may be interested in donating a prize let Russell know. If you order the small ribs, as Murray did, be sure to have a big appetite.
This coming week, Wednesday 24 April we will be joining other Rotary clubs to attend the SAN Hospital for breakfast and hear from Dr Ketan Bhatt about Dementia Care. More details will be forwarded via email relating to the cost and exact venue of the event. No doubt it is a topic of great importance to all of us. It is always interesting to get the latest research information about this important medical condition.
RSVP’s have closed for this event.
You are invited to attend the ANZAC Day service at St Ives this coming Thursday 25 April. We will be laying a wreath at the ANZAC Day service being organised by the Lions Club at the St Ives War Memorial on Mona Vale Road. Thanks go to Barry and Di Barnes who are again providing most of the native florals from their farm in the Hunter Valley. Everyone is invited to join this special commemorative service at 10.00am.
Wondering what we have coming up in May? Left are the dates for your diary. You can always find details in The Waratah and calendar at the end of the bulletin, as well as on our club website. Please note that we will be meeting on different days some weeks.
In a world where daily news reflects conflicts around the globe and negative reports can be dis-heartening, I am again reminded of the quote to the left and the call to join Rotary. We have joined Rotary because we want to make positive difference in our local community and across the globe. We try to live by the principles of being the good and making a positive difference where we can.
Individually we can contribute, but together we create a synergy more positive than the power of just one.
Thank you to everyone who regularly updates information on the website and keeps the records accurate so that we comply with Rotary International requirements for our registration as a charity. For more information please visit: https://portal.clubrunner.ca/6167/
Thank you to everyone who continues to support our club through their attendance at our weekly meetings, and working behind the scenes in small groups on the important projects that keep our club vibrant and dynamic.
