Rotary vision: More clubs! More friends!
April is Rotary’s MAGAZINE Month
This week was a full-on Rotary week for some of us. Firstly it was the president’s dinner at the Hornsby RSL. It is a unique experience to sit with fellow presidents and exchange views, challenges and kudos occurring in their respective clubs. Even the manner in which we wear our dinner badges and their myriad styles was a topic of discussion. This meeting reflects the multiple tiers at which Rotary operates – the last one for this year being scheduled on the 7th of June. We were informed of winning the Changemaker Award – but so did almost every club that applied for it in the district!!
The weekend was consumed by the District Assembly. Our club was represented by PE Brendan accompanied by PDG Brian, VP John, PE-N Bruce, IPP Grahame, New Gen Dee, Projects Russell, Secretary Don and I. DGE John Dodd gave an interesting presentation made more so by his announcement that he will not be visiting all clubs – instead, there will be zone level meetings. Ours is scheduled on 22nd August and we will sit along with all other clubs in our zone at Hornsby RSL. As I am the Vocational chair for the new year, I took the opportunity of attending that forum lead by Peter Kirkwood. In response to discussions and questions, I highlighted our many initiatives in this area including My-4way-Test, Ethics in Business (Matthew Campbell), Pride-of-Workmanship (that will soon become Workpersonship) and sending Daniella as our school representative at the district conference. During the assembly, which was held in the sprawling campus of the Pymble Ladies College, we also got to watch a video clip of incoming RI President Sakuji Tanaka underscoring his theme: Peace through Service. It was a fascinating experience to hear in distinctly Japanese accent words that easily rang a bell in the hearts of everyone present: “Service above Self is more than a motto – it is a Way of Life!” I wanted to go and tell this to a few non-Rotarian friends – but then, alas, words are so poor in describing the beauty of life. Unless a person has had some glimpse of the joys of Rotary s/he may never know what has been missed.
On another important note: ANZAC is a tradition that we acknowledge gratefully. Happy ANZAC day to everyone in our club.
Yours In Rotary,
Bhuvan
What is Rotary?
What is Rotary, this is a question that is often asked, who are you, what do you do? The Rotary Club of Lane Cove has produced a video which gives an overview of what Rotary is and what Rotarians get involved in.

Australian Rotary Health
Concept
Australian Rotary Health is Australia's largest non-government funding body of mental illness research. We also fund research in other health related areas.
The genesis of Australian Rotary Health in 1981 was the mystery of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). The Late Ian Scott, from the Rotary Club of Mornington, established Australian Rotary Health to support research into SIDS. As Australian Rotary Health grew so did the vision of medical research possibilities. Supported by Rotarians Australian wide, Australian Rotary Health was soon in a position to sponsor health research in areas that did not readily attract funding.
Australian Rotary Health has a broad vision of health. We are a catalyst for projects that improve the quality of life for people who are least able to assist themselves.
Donations In Kind (DIK) is the program whereby Rotarians and Rotary Clubs source surplus goods and products within Australia that have no further use here and provide them to regions which can utilise them.
Rotary's Donations In Kind program provides a central coordination point for storage, packing and dispatch of goods for local and international efforts, minimising the costs associated with getting goods to where they are needed in the world.
If you have quantities of goods, equipment or products that you no longer need but that could be utilised by others in need, please make contact with Donations In Kind. Your contribution could make a big difference in someone's life somewhere in the world.
