Doing Good in India!
The Rotary Club of St Ives is helping schools in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh by donating funds for school benches so that secondary school students will have better facilities for studying.
Currently, many government schools in India consist of basic buildings without electricity, lighting, running water, student toilets, or school desks. They have committed teachers and eager students, but the buildings only provide shelter from the weather.
Our club and others in our District are sponsoring improvements in basic sanitation by building school toilets as a first step. These are under construction at 10 schools, but many more are needed.
The next step is to provide school desks, or benches, so that the students can have space to read and write during their classes.

The local Rotary clubs in Guntur are anxious to support the fund-raising, and have organised to include the name of the donors on the benches, and to take photos of the school benches being delivered. The cost of a bench seating three students is only $A75.
We are working to raise the funds to fit out at least one classroom of 30 students at each of the ten schools we are assisting -- that's 10 school benches at 10 schools -- $A7,500 by June 2008.
Please join us in supporting the education of young people in India by donating to this project.
