Bollywood August 2009

A Night to Remember

Charles Agnewagnew

St Ives Rotary Club presented an evening of Bollywood glamour and glitz at the Hornsby RSL club on Saturday August 1st 2009.

With the assistance of Go Wyld Bollywood events, provided professional dancers, drummers, decorations, and music. By the end of the evening with the help of a corporate donor we raised $27,000.

We thank all of those people who attended for helping us to END POLIO NOW!

Our thanks also go to Gajendra Kumar from India Tourism for their support with sponsorship as well as goodie bags for everyone to take home.

The Rotary Club of St Ives thanks Gowyld for helping us to raise awareness of our END POLIO NOW Campaign.

As with all major events there are many sponsors, and supporters and St Ives Rotary Club members express their sincere gratitude to St Ives Shopping village for their ongoing support. Village Concierge for Ticketmaster Vouchers. Go Wyld Events for their raffle prize, Nilgiri's resturant in St Leonards, Guru restaurant in Surrey Hills for their raffle prize of a dinner and an autographed book of Opel Khan's ' Sex in the Kitchen', India Tea and Curry House restuarant in Turramurra, Road to Goa restaurant in St Ives and Copper Tiffin restaurant in Surrey Hills for the dinner vouchers.

Many ladies came away with Henna (Mehndi, pronounced meh-hend-dee) on their hands as well as the Bindi on the forehead, everyone was dressed for the occasion from Maharaja's to Maharani's to colonial bureaucrats, sergeant majors from the English army to nehrus. Everyone looked fabulous.

The night was a success because everyone came to have Fun and the dancing went on to late.

Every event needs people to assist on the night, and our thanks go to St Ives Rotaract Club for their support with raffle ticket selling, promoting purple pinkies and making sure everyone got their sumptuous Indian meal.
