Some International Projects
Reaching Overseas with Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC). Children best described as "the forgotten children" of this world, due to their horrific appearance caused by birth defects or as the result of an accident, are having their lives turned around with special trips to Australia for major surgery.
Interplast Australia is a non-profit aid organisation founded by Rotary and the Royal Australian College of surgeons in 1983. Since that time, over 10,000 operations have been performed in 16 countries, during 250 visits, at an average cost of $500 per operation. Interplast is partly funded by AusAid but mainly relies on the financial support of Rotary, the public and corporate sponsors.
Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) -- This is the organisation within Australia which provides volunteer assistance to our neighbouring countries.please click here
Donations In Kind (DIK) - Rotarians have access to items, which have no further use in Australia but can serve a need in a developing country. DIK will collect, and then coordinate the dispatch and delivery of these items. DIK provides services in two main areas. Education - books and equipment, and health - bandages, medical equipment, wheel chairs, beds, air conditioners, trolleys, etc. Many of these items are obtained as various schools and hospital departments upgrade their facilities in Australia.

Shelterbox is a uniquely practical program, which delivers the essentials for basic shelter directly to disaster victims throughout the world. The boxes are assembled in England, and then sent to the disaster zone where the volunteer Rotary teams deliver them directly to the families in need. Since the program started just seven years ago, almost 500,000 people in 31 countries have been provided shelter. Recently, a major earthquake and tsunami on the Solomon Islands left over 5000 people homeless. A supply of 200 ten-person tents, sleeping bags, mosquito nets, cooking utensils, water purification equipment, and tools was sent to the remote area, thanks to Shelterbox. To help support this humanitarian effort, the Rotary Club of St Ives launched a fund-raising appeal at St Ives Village Shopping Centre, raising over $7,000 in donations in just a few hours.http://www.shelterbox.org/
The internationality of Rotary provides many opportunities to assist needy people overseas, both by financial contribution and practical assistance. The Rotary Club of St Ives has always been ready to undertake such projects.
