Welcome to The Rotary Club of St Ives Website!

On this site, you will find lots of information about our Club, its activities, and its history.  You'll also find links to Rotary International and the 30,000+ other clubs around the world.

We meet for dinner at the Pymble Golf Club every Wednesday evening at 6.30 for 7.00 pm, unless it's a public holiday, or we arrange a special event at another location.  Our meetings involve a wide variety of guest speakers -- including experts in matters of business, professional ethics, health, community service, and overseas aid projects.

Our main priorities this year are to establish links between our village of St Ives with villages in rural communities here in Australia, and in a neighbouring country.  Our club members and the local community regularly assist with a wide number of community projects, including a Tree of Joy providing gifts to nursing home residents, Shelterbox - providing tents and supplies for disaster victims, raising funds to help severely disabled children who attend Sir Eric Woodward School, the Red Shield appeal, and many other projects.

We also have a lot of fun with social activities as a club, with group dinners at local restaurants, participation in our annual District Conference (in Canberra March 2011), and fund raising activities such as our community concert in December.

I would like to extend an invitation to you to "test drive" our Rotary Club any time.  Come and see what we're up to!  Membership is open to business and professional people who have an interest in giving something back to the community.

An outbreak of Polio in Nepal

Over 10 years after its last indigenous case was traced in Nepal, polio has reached a dangerous stage of local transmission. Doctors warn that the local transmission of polio, if not tackled effectively at the earliest, may result in a deadly epidemic.

According to Sunday's Republica daily report, of some recent cases of polio detected in Rautahat and Mahottari districts in central Nepal, three have been transmitted locally. Even more shockingly, in all five cases, polio victims had been administered at least a dose of the vaccine
