Rotary District 9680 in New South Wales is the premier District of Sydney, Australia.

Its boundaries stretch from the southern shores of Sydney Harbour, west to the Parramatta River and Kellyville, reaching across the Hawkesbury River and north to Toukley on the Central Coast.

Within its boundaries are the business districts of North Sydney, Chatswood, Gosford and the Ryde industrial area. Beautiful beaches define its eastern border, whilst rural communities make up its western and northern borders.

Whilst compact in size by Australian standards the District contains 66 Rotary Clubs and approximately 1,900 Rotarians.

David joined Rotary as Charter Secretary of the Western Hutt Club in New Zealand in 1974, and was President in 1976-77. His membership has continued for 37 years in four clubs, including a year in Baulkham Hills, 4 years in Jurong Town (Singapore) and Beecroft, where he was President in 1989/90.

During his time in Rotary, David has held all club board positions and Club Service roles and in NZ was involved in Rotary Youth Exchange and RYLA at District level.  For District 9680, David has been a GSE inbound coordinator for two teams, was the Assistant Governor for City North zone 2008-09, and was the District Information Director 2009-10. He has also served on the District Administration Committee. David is a member of the Paul Harris Society and is a Major Donor.

David studied Chemistry at the University of Auckland, and lectured for 4 years while completing his PhD. After working at Philips Electrical and ICI in production roles, David moved in 1976 to Taubmans Paints New Zealand as Production Manager, finishing with the company in 1990 as main board director of Taubmans Industries based in Sydney. The last 19 years of his business career was with DIC (originally Coates Brothers), the printing ink manufacturer, commencing as Managing Director in Australia, retiring from full time work and becoming non executive Chairman of the Australasian companies at the end of 2008, retiring fully from the company at the end of 2009. David spent 4 years (1994 to 1997) in Singapore as Regional Managing Director for Coates looking after companies from Pakistan to Korea to New Zealand.

In younger days David's interests included swimming, sailing, and music, and he has, through a long involvement with the Uniting Church been involved in organ music and choir singing. David built his first two houses and extended others. More recently, interests have extended to golf and tennis, theatre, opera, and travel.

David is married to Anne, who had a career in high school and ESL teaching. Anne pursues an interest in languages, in particular English, French and Chinese. Also she enjoys tennis and golf. They have four children and seven grandchildren.
